Jewel Box Jr is a Birdwatcher type cabin sailboat design by Jim Michalek.

It is a 15 foot long, 5 foot wide, 400 lbs empty, flat bottom scow, which has 96 sq ft of sail.

It is designed to be a quick, low cost build (nail and glue construction, with exterior grade plywood). The birdwatcher type cabin has a tremendous amount of interior space and will float on it's side, if knocked over by the wind. The crew sits low inside the cabin, looking out through plexiglass windows all around, eliminating the need for ballast. This boat is for use on sheltered waterways; due to the flat bottom, it will pound in larger seas.
