Collar grabbed from behind, nage in left hanmi, uke in rt hanmi holding nage's collar with his rt hand- nage steps slightly to his rt with his rt foot; nage steps back toward uke with his left foot and atemis to uke's face with his left hand. Nage brings his own rt hand to his forehead. Uke blocks nage's strike with his left hand. Nage continues to step back with his left foot and passes under nage's rt arm, making an atemi to uke's face with nage's rt hand. Nage continues to step behind uke with his left foot, trying to get into hanmi behind uke and on uke's centerline. Nage takes uke's rt arm and does ikkyo.

Note this collar grab is basically the same as kata menuchi; if nage makes a strong initial atemi, uke will push back against it and nage can do any kata menuchi technique.

Uke has bokken, nage has jo.

Start with tips touching, nage is in tsuki position with jo, nage moves jo to right to invite attack. Uke strikes shomen to nage's left side. Nage steps back, moving his hands to both ends of the bokken, changing the end that is forward and then blocking uke's shomen to the side. Uke strikes shomen to nage's rt side. Nage steps back with his rt foot and does same block with jo. Uke steps across line, raising bokken overhead to strike nage. Nage steps back with his left foot and brings the forward end of the jo back and over nage's head. Nage thrusts downwards to uke's chest.

Start as above. Initial shomen and block are identical. As soon as nage blocks, he raises his hands to head level and spins the jo horizontally. Nage's rt hand is now on the forward end of the jo with his thumb pointing at uke. This means the jo is pointing at uke too. Uke strikes shomen to nage's rt side. Nage steps back with rt foot and blocks strike; his left hand is forward and rt hand at back of jo. Nage immediately does a hasso motion with the jo, bringing it to his rt shoulder. Uke strikes shomen to nage's left side. Nage's left hand stays close to the end of the jo as nage steps in next to uke and pushes the end of the jo against uke's hip.
