Yokomen uchi

Return

  • hitoe iriminage variation - Nage in left hanmi. Step with right foot across the line of attack to uke's right side; cut down on uke's right elbow with your right hand. Turn to your left so your back is toward uke. Raise your left arm so it brings uke's head up and back. Step behind uke with your left foot as you turn and throw uke.

  • Yokomenuchi hajiki goshi ? - Uke strikes yokomen with his rt hand. Nage in left hanmi, irimis with his left leg in front of uke with his left arm extended toward uke's left shoulder. Nage then pivots 180 clockwise with his left arm still extended to block uke's attacking rt arm. Nage captures uke's rt arm with nage's left arm (biceps) and extends him out to throw.

  • ikkyo ura - don't push uke's arm accross the line of attack; keep his arm where it is and just tenkan. Initially from left hanmi, step back tenshin with left foot, then slide fwd behind uke with rt foot and step deep behind with your left foot; tenkan on your left foot.

  • Nikkyo
    • Omote - From left hanmi, nage steps back tenshin. Bring uke's striking hand down with your left arm and strike (shomen) to uke's face with your rt hand. At the bottom of the strike, reverse the direction of uke's rt arm with your rt arm making a large clockwise circle. Your left hand moves to uke's rt elbow and push as you turn your hips to your right (just like ikkyo). Step fwd with your left leg, so it is under uke's rt shoulder (uke is now bent over). Now your rt thumb moves over and around uke's rt wrist to apply the nikkyo grip. Bring uke down face down on mat and apply vertical nikkyo pin.
    • Ura - From left hanmi, nage steps back tenshin. Bring uke's striking hand down with your left arm and strike (shomen) to uke's face with your rt hand. At the bottom of the strike, reverse the direction of uke's rt arm with your rt arm making a large clockwise circle. Your left hand moves to uke's rt elbow and you step behind uke with your left leg. As you tenkan, your left hand moves down uke's forearm from his elbow to his wrist. Bring uke's arm down low (bend your knees), extending him as you do a U shaped step with your left leg. Your rt hand moves over the back of uke's wrist and you bring his wrist up to your left shoulder. Make sure to move your rt leg into hanmi behind your left leg, so your groin is not open. Apply nikkyo to uke's wrist. Step behind uke with your left leg and then tenkan on that leg, bringing uke face down on the mat. Nage is spinning clockwise as viewed from above. Finish with vertical nikkyo pin.

  • makiotoshi
    • Irimi to side - uke strikes with rt hand. Irimi deep to stop the strike with your left hand. Take uke's left hand with your rt hand and tenkan on your left foot; uke is now behind your back with your left arm under his left shoulder. Continue to pivot clockwise and kneel down on your left knee, throwing makiotoshi.
    • Tenshin - uke strikes with rt hand. Step back tenshin to absorb the attack. Bring uke's rt arm back up circularly to your left. Grab his rt elbow with your left hand, your left arm is extended. (move so you are toward uke's rt rear). Step in under uke's rt arm and do makio toshi kneeling down on your rt knee. Check with Vu on this.
    • Irimi to front - 2 ways: back to uke and facing uke
    • shiho sabaki makiotoshi - step back with fwd left leg (tenshin); do shihonage omote on uke's rt arm. As you pass under his arm, turn back to your right and put your rt extended arm under uke's right triceps. Turn hips back to your left and drop your right knee to mat as your throw. Uke goes off at right angle to the original line of attack.

  • Seio otoshi - Step back with left foot and lead uke's strike down. Lead his arm to your rt side as if you are doing shihonage. Grab his wrist with your left hand and grab his rt shoulder/elbow with your rt hand. Pass under his elbow, stepping in with your left foot and turn 180 to your right, throwing uke. (I think you grab his wrist with your rt hand and his elbow with your left hand - need to check this out)

  • Seio otoshi (another version)- Step back with left foot and lead uke's strike down. Grab his wrist with your left hand and grab his rt shoulder/elbow with your rt hand. Step in with your right foot, in front of uke's right foot. Extend your right arm (and uke's shoulder) upwards (like you were doing a koshinage); lower your hips if necessary to do this. Then drop your right knee and let your weight throw uke. Dave Farrell also did this without stepping back.

  • arm lock throw - From left hanmi, get into position for shihonage; hold uke's wrist with your right hand. Your left hand goes over the inside of uke's forearm and grabs your own right wrist; you may have to rotate your right wrist down and fwd, so you can reach it with your left hand. Step in, tenkan on your right foot and drop to your knee, throwing uke. Roll him over and pin his shoulder.

  • kotegaeshi - left hanmi, step back tenshin as the strike comes in. Your "blocking" arm stays fairly vertical, starting toward uke's face and coming down to meet the yokomen. Use the outside of your forearm to meet the yokomen (where the 2 bones in your forearm are), not the edge of your forearm. You can do a yokomen to uke's face with your free hand if you wish. Grab uke's hand with your rt hand and twist to your rt, unbalancing uke and sliding your rt foot out to your rt. You must stay out of range of uke's other hand. Once uke is unbalanced, you can atemi to his ribs or face. Apply kotegaeshi grip with your left hand and tenkan, throwing uke. When doing pin, nage's knee on the top of uke's shoulder comes down first.

  • neck pull otoshi - Nage in left hanmi. Slide fwd with your left foot in front of uke. Place your left hand behind uke's neck. Step foward with your right foot and then tenkan on your right foot, all the time bringing uke's head with you. Coninue to turn your hips and throw uke.

  • uki otoshi - Nage in left hanmi. Step out to your right side with your right foot, before uke's strike reaches you. Then step back with your left foot and do uki otoshi
  • uki otoshi (combine with above) - nage in rt hanmi. Slide your left foot fwd and to your left. Lead uke's left arm down and push on his hip with your left hand. Kneel down on your rt knee; you should be facing 90 degrees to uke's line of attack

  • uchi otoshi - irimi and block strike with left hand and atemi to uke's face with rt hand. Grab uke's rt wrist with your left hand. Step under uke's rt arm with your rt foot and then take another step back with your left leg (tenkan on your rt foot). Pivot 180 degrees until you are facing your original direction. Step forward with your rt foot and put your right arm under uke's right arm, throwing him.

  • uchi otoshi (combine with above) - from left hanmi step back and start to do shihonage. Step fwd with left leg and pass under uke's rt arm. Turn 180 degrees to your rt. Then your left hand moves up the back of uke's arm and wraps around his shoulder. Shift your weight to your rear and kneel down on your left knee, using this shift in body weight to throw uke at a 90 degree angle from the original attack. Keep your rt knee up with your lower leg at 90 degrees to the floor, so if uke lands on your leg, he won't break it.

  • Tsuki age - step into uke with rear right foot and extend right arm thru his face. Press on lower jaw with your rt hand. Make sure you enter deep enough so you are inside the strike and you take his space.

  • Hajiki Goshi
    • Irimi with fwd left foot and stop yokomen strike with your left hand blade. Place your rt arm under uke's upper rt arm and trap it between your bicep and forearm. Step fwd with your rt leg and project uke outwards.
    • Step back tenshin with your fwd left foot and block uke's strike with your left arm. Grab uke's rt wrist and pivot your hips 180 degrees, so you and uke are facing the same direction. Put your rt arm under uke's upper rt arm as above. Step fwd with your rt foot and throw uke with his captured rt arm.

  • kata hiki otoshi
    • irimi and block strike, put your other hand over uke's shoulder; step back 90 degrees with rear foot and throw
    • other way - nage is in left hanmi, uke strikes with his rt hand. Slide your left foot fwd and put your left hand around uke's neck. Step back with your left foot and throw, pushing on uke's left hip.

  • gokkyo - omote - twist your hips and bring uke's arm down in front of you, before you step under his shoulder with your near leg.

  • shihonage

  • Yokomen uchi general
    • when uke strikes, nage steps back tenshin, and cuts down the strike with one hand and atemis to uke's face or stomach with free hand. Therefore nage is also using both hands (unified body idea).
    • Nage should cut uke's yokomen strike down with his arm; don't try to block it. Nage's other hand can atemi to uke's face, as nage steps back.

  • name? - Step back with left foot and lead uke's strike down. Lead his arm to your rt side as if you are doing shihonage. Grab his wrist with your left hand and grab his rt shoulder/elbow with your rt hand. Pass under his elbow, stepping in with your left foot and turn 180 to your right, throwing uke.

Yokomen uchi - nage in left hanmi

  • shihonage going down to knees
    • omote - step back tenshin; as you step in front of uke with your left leg, pivot 180 degrees and kneel down on left knee, right knee is still up. Twist back 90 degrees to your left and drop your right knee at the same time. You end up facing 90 degrees to your starting position
    • ura - irimi and block uke's strike. Bring his arm down, grab his wrist with both hands and tenkan. Continue as above (add more detail here)
  • kotegaeshi garuma - step back tenshin, and lead uke's wrist down into your right hand. Irimi to his side as if doing shihonage. Put your left hand over uke's forearm and grab your right wrist. Your right hand must be free to turn on uke's wrist as you do this. Pivot 180 degrees and pass uke's hand toward his face (very important)as you turn, going down on one knee.
  • reverse shihonage - irimi to block uke's strike. Don't block his arm so it goes down too low and passes under your arm to hit your side. Put your right arm under uke's elbow and then bend your right arm, pulling uke's elbow back toward you. Your left hand pushes toward uke's shoulder. Your wrists cross at the end. Twist your hips to throw uke (you can drop to one knee).
  • koshinage (double tenkan) - irimi to block strike, your right hand goes over uke's left shoulder. Tenkan on your left foot and lead uke around. Keep his left shoulder low at the end of the tenkan. Your left hand grabs uke's sleeve or wrist. Keep your left arm extended straight. Bring your right foot around and place it between his legs. Do koshinage.
  • kaiten nage - irimi deep and stop uke's arm with your left arm. Nage's right hand passes under uke's arm and moves it fwd. Nage's left arm cuts down over the top of uke's arm to do kaiten nage; nage's right arm goes to uke's neck.
