"When we say kettlebells, we mean strength. When we say strength, we mean kettlebells." Pavel
I 'discovered' the KB in April 08. I was doing some research on bodyweight exercises (hindu squat and pushup), when I read that KB training produced better results. I researched KBs, tried it and was hooked.
Pavel Tsatsouline, who was a Soviet special forces trainer, brought the knowledge of kettlebell training to the US. To earn his national ranking in the USSR, Pavel had to power snatch a 32kg kettlebell forty times with one arm, and forty with the other back to back; he also had to power clean and jerk two such bells forty-five times. Pavel is now a civilian trainer and consultant with the U.S. Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, nuclear-security units of the U.S. Department of Energy and elite units of U.S. Marshals and SWAT teams. He has published a number of books and videos on training with kettlebells.
An adult male should start out with a 35 pound KB. An adult female should start with a 18 or 20 pound KB. Kettlebells can now be purchased locally at stores such as Dick's Sporting Goods, Target and Walmart. Beginners should also get a copy of Pavel's "Enter the Kettlebell" which is considered the bible of kettlebell lifting. There are many KB instructional videos on the internet, including the excellent DV8 Fitness KB videos.
