Shomen uchi

  • Nikkyo ura - catch uke's shomen (both your hands at his wrist) and tenkan 180 degrees; now you are facing opposite to where you started. Now do J step leading uke's wrist around; bring his wrist to your shoulder at the end of the J step..

  • Hajiki goshi - Irimi to uke's rt side and tenkan. Your left hand is on his rt elbow. Do J step (irimi deep) and place your rt hand on uke's left shoulder. Do another tenkan on your left foot and throw uke. Your left hip will be touching uke's hip. This almost a hip throw except you are entering outside of uke's leg instead of between them.

  • shihonage - left hanmi
    • omote - your left hand (cross hand) receives the strike and your right hand is placed on top of your left hand. Turn your hips all the way to your right, as you receive the strike. Use your right hand to push uke's arm to the outside (I never knew this part of it!)
    • no ura from this, only omote (Kanai never saw O'Sensei do ura !)

  • kaitenage
    • omote -
    • ura new way - nage in rt hanmi - extend your right arm to deflect uke's attacking right arm. Grab uke's rt elbow with your left hand. Step to uke's back with your left foot and tenkan on your left foot. Do U shaped step and lead uke around.
    • ura old way -

  • uki otoshi
    • omote - nage in left hanmi, uke strikes with his left arm. Step accross with rt leg to uke's left side. Block strike with your right hand (your hands should be crossed). Your right hand extends fwd and your left hand extends into his face. Step fwd with left leg.
    • ura - Nage's hands start as if you were doing shomenuchi shihonage. Step out to your left with your left foot and step back with your right foot. Turn your hips all the way to your right. Continue the motion of uke's left arm down and out, as you turn to your right. Your left hand pushes on uke's hip. Kneel down on your left knee and bring your right leg back so it is 90 degrees to the direction of the throw.

  • Hitoe Iriminage
    • Omote - Uke strikes shomen with his rt arm. Receive shomen by turning your hips away from strike (like shihonage). After the strike turn your hips back to your rt facing uke again. Grab uke's wrist with your rt hand and lead it fwd, sliding fwd with your rt leg if necessary. Bring your left arm in front of uke and do hitoe iriminage.
    • Ura - Step accross the line of attack with your rear left leg and let the strike slide down your rt arm. Turn your hips 180 degrees so you are facing the same direction as uke. Grab uke's rt wrist with your rt hand. Bring your left arm in front of uke and do hitoe iriminage.

  • Gyaku hitoe iriminage
    • Uke strikes shomen with his rt arm. Slide fwd with your fwd rt leg to uke's left side. Slice diagonally upwards accross uke's chest with your rt handblade. Hit the side of uke's neck with your left forearm and push against his elbow with your rt hand, as you pivot 180 degrees to your left.

  • Gyaku Aikiotoshi
    • Uke strikes shomen with his rt arm. Slide fwd with your fwd rt leg to uke's left side. Slice diagonally upwards accross uke's chest with your rt handblade. Your left (right ?) arm goes around uke's waist to pull his left hip against your hip and your rt (left ?) hand pulls up his rt knee. Bend your knees, lift uke's legs up and throw to your left (right ?) side. (try this out to figure out whether it is right or left??)

  • hizatate uki otoshi - From right hanmi, irimi to outside of uke's right striking hand and tenkan. Grab his right shoulder with your left hand and step back with your left foot. Go down on your left knee and then your right knee. You end up facing 90 degrees to direction of throw.

  • kokyunage - uke strikes with left hand. Enter deeply to uke's front with your left foot and atemi to his face with your left arm. This must be a strong atemi. Then grab uke's left elbow with your left hand and tenkan on your left foot, throwing uke in the same direction he was moving.

  • Hajiki goshi
    • omote - from right hanmi, extend your left arm to the inside of uke's striking right arm, step in front of uke with your right foot, tenkan and put your right arm under uke's right arm and throw off your right hip.
    • ura - step to uke's right side with your left foot as if doing taiotoshi, lead uke's right arm down and then back to uke's right rear, place your right arm under uke's right arm and step fwd behind uke with your right foot.

  • ikkyo surinuke into koshinage - from left hanmi start ikkyo, then pass under uke's arm. Step under with your rt leg and then withdraw your left leg, turning to your left. Extend uke and make them take a step. Step in front of uke with your fight foot. Raise uke's left arm and grab his right arm. Your right arm goes around uke's waist. Stick your hip out and do koshinage. You can also do aikiotoshi - after your make uke take a step, step behind him instead of in front and put your right arm in front of uke; do aikiotoshi.

  • Ikkyo into kotegaeshi - when you have uke's arm on your leg, slide your hand from his elbow to the inside of his bicep, slide your other hand from his wrist down over his hand, take a step fwd with your back foot and then tenkan on it. Come down on one knee and force uke onto his front with your forearm pushing against his tricep. Finish with vertical kotegaeshi pin.

  • taiotoshi - omote & ura

Shomenuchi attack - nage in left hanmi

  • Ikkyo - once you enter, bring uke's arm down following the curve of his arm. This is different from pushing his elbow into his ear.
    • If you miss the strike and are too late, turn your hips back to your right and let the strike go by; then bring his arm back up into Ikkyo.
  • kata hiki otoshi variation omote - start doing taiotoshi omote; once you bring uke's arm down, irimi further with your right foot on uke's left side. Put your left arm over uke's right shoulder and tenkan on your right foot, bringing uke around 180 degrees.
  • kata hiki otoshi variation ura - start doing taiotoshi ura; do U shaped step and pass under uke's left arm. Your left arm goes over uke's right shoulder and throw as above.
  • Aiki nage (drop and take out uke's knees) - step with your right rear foot deep into uke's right side; atemi upwards to uke's face with your right hand. You want to get hime moving upwards. Once uke is commited to strike, drop to your knees facing 90 degrees to the line of attack and take uke's space. Done correctly, nage takes uke out at the knees, so uke must take the fall and let his knees move upwards out of the way. Uke can place his hand on nage's back.
  • Hitoe iriminage - 3 ways: irimi and pivot, irimi and tenkan, in place tenshin (like shihonage) to turn uke around and do hitoe iriminage.

  • Hiji dome kokyunage
    • Tenkan - enter as if doing iriminage on uke's rt side; tenkan on your left foot and grab uke's rt elbow with your left hand; slide forward with your left foot and throw uke
    • Irimi - from rt hanmi - slide your rt foot forward and extend your rt hand into uke's face; you must make his head move back; grab uke's rt elbow and tenkan on your rt foot; extend fwd to throw uke

  • Kata hiki otoshi
    • To the outside of uke - nage in rt hanmi; slide rt foot to uke's right side and step fwd with your left foot; cut uke's shomen down; your right hand goes to his left shoulder and your left hand goes on the inside of uke's right elbow, guiding it down and up to uke's rear; step back with your right foot and throw
    • to the inside of uke - nage in rt hanmi; slide your rt foot to uke's front side and atemi with rt hand to uke's face; pull your left hand back as if you were getting ready to throw a punch so your left hand doesn't get hit; then your left hand goes to uke's rt shoulder and your right hand goes to the inside of uke's left elbow; step back with your left foot and throw.
